Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate over 50 million viewers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
